Main-Kinzig-District launched Inranet based on FirstSpirit

On the road to electronic administration

As one of the few public administrations the Main-Kinzig District has a central internal information platform. The completely reworked intranet presence on the basis of the Content Management System, FirstSpirit, has now been presented and it met with great approval. After the MKK homepage www.mkk.de was first entered with FirstSpirit in 2003, now the new intranet has also been converted to the FirstSpirit update, and thus an important internal base platform for future development has been created. The close to 2,200 intranet pages correspond precisely to the layout of the MKK homepage and satisfy all demands relative to user friendliness and modern navigation and information architecture. Approximately 20 editors will maintain the new intranet in the future and will make changes daily. With the commissioning of the Main-Kinzig Forum this year the intranet will be become a central tool of the district administration.

Increased efficiency can be noticed, even at this point, emphasized District Chief Executive, Karl Eyerkaufer. Thus the administration has been ordering office supplies electronically since June 2004, for example, and clear savings have been realized, not only in consumables but also relative to process costs. Additional processes such as handling employee timekeeping, travel cost reimbursement and training measures will be integrated in the Intranet.

The goal is to digitalize all suitable processes within the framework of organizational development in order to exploit additional potential and to achieve increases in efficiency. To achieve the goals that have been set, the organization is also investing in the computer competence of all personnel, so that they can continually develop their skills themselves on the intranet.
