Increased efficiency through direct linkage between online data and print data
At this year's CeBIT in Hannover the Dortmund software, house e-Spirit, presented with FirstSpirit PRINT a new solution for efficient and seamless combination of content management, product data management and desktop publishing (DTP). e-Spirit showed the new solution on the stand of its partner IBM Germany in Hall 4, Booth A12 (demo point 35). Another focal point was integration of the powerful Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) FirstSpirit with the portal technologies from IBM and SAP (demo point 34).
For many companies advertising information is located in DTP programs and Office documents. Data transfer without software support is cumbersome and error-intensive. FirstSpirit PRINT makes it possible to use these data sources efficiently to set up a media-neutral product database. The enterprise-wide data sources available in the FirstSpirit ECMS likewise can be used in setting up the product database. Thus seamless linkage between the online world and the print world is possible: Editorial content can be created and maintained via the Content Management System; product data are located in the connected database. All relevant information then flows into the DTP software via predefined templates in order to there initiate final polishing and print.
DTP production that is more efficient and faster
Thus clear increases in efficiency, particularly for mail order and B2B commerce, can be realized, for example in the publication of catalogs and Internet sites. Catalogs can be planned directly from the product database, they can be transferred into a DTP program like Adobe InDesign, and at the same time they can be used as editorial information on the Internet, for example in a shop. Since data in the DTP program can still be changed and rearranged, short production sequences and high-quality layouts can be realized.
It holistically supports the publication process of all types of print media. This includes automatic or automated page creation for catalogs, flyers, brochures, etc. automated adaptations of language versions, data organization of catalog production, and support of the correction workflow, including production status and production monitoring.
Integration of IBM and SAP portal technology
In addition, e-Spirit presented the integration of the IBM Webshere portal server as well as the SAP Enterprise Portal Server with the FirstSpirit content management system at demo point 34. Personalized information and applications are provided to personnel via the portal technology that has increasing strategic significance for companies. Thus for instance key figures from the ERP system can be entered directly via the portal. The portal enables Single-Sign-On authentication of the respective user so that an individual view of data and applications is possible. Editorial content managed via the Content Management System FirstSpirit is made available for the respective portal technologies via portlets or iViews. In addition to uniform authentication, representation of ERP data, and connection of business applications, individual employees are thus provided with specific editorial content and documents via the portal.
