Direct Access to Documents in Document Management Systems

The FirstSpirit™ module DMS-Connect enables direct access from the FirstSpirit™ interface to documents being maintained in the Document Management System (DMS).

In addition to creating content for editing, online editing teams also often have to publish documents to a Content Management System (CMS). These can include, for example, standard business conditions, fax templates, or various product datasheets. In these cases documents will be managed in a Document Management System. And since many CMS's do not provide an interface to the DMS, the documents have to be transferred to the CMS manually. This can give rise to a number of problems related to keeping redundant data, such as old documents that continue to be available online even though an updated version is already available in the DMS.

Now, with the module DMS-Connect, a company's existing DMS can be accessed directly from the editing interface of FirstSpirit™. Among the systems that can be connected are Alfresco, SharePoint Server and Co.

Standardization for a forward-looking orientation

DMS-Connect is based on the new standard Content Management Interoperability Services – or CMIS. This enables easier and more standardized access to Document Management Systems. Under the leadership of OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) prominent manufacturers have joined hands to support this standard.

This allows editors to access and update the documents they need from inside their customary editing environment. DMS-Connect then takes care of the required updates to the documents in the Content Management System.
