EnterpriseConnect

In complex and inhomogeneous system landscapes, the topic of integration sets particularly large challenges for a content management system.

With the EnterpriseConnect module, FirstSpirit™ therefore provides flexible options for linking a large number of backend systems and for publishing content on different channels such as the Internet, Intranet or PDF. The data is searched for directly in FirstSpirit™ client, which enables a continuous editing process.

Use scenarios

With the help of EnterpriseConnect, data and documents from many different backend systems are made available in FirstSpirit™. This makes FirstSpirit™ a real integration platform for corporate data.

Possible use scenarios are, for example:

  • Deployment of manuals on the internet site, which are maintained internally on a SharePoint server
  • Output of product information on the intranet or internet site, which is read directly out of SAP
  • Publication of SharePoint documents in an SAP portal, which is filled with content by FirstSpirit™
  • Publication of PDF downloads on the internet, which are maintained internally via a network drive

Apart from pure data transfer, format conversions are also possible. This is always relevant when a proprietary file format is to be made "web capable".

Here are a few scenario examples:

  • Preparation of PowerPoint presentations from an internal SharePoint server as a PDF download for the internet
  • Deployment of technical drawings as web graphics (e.g. JPG) for a product, which are maintained in-house within the company as a TIFF file on a network drive

The EnterpriseConnect module therefore enables "web-enabling" of a large amount of corporate data.

The particular charm of integrating corporate data in FirstSpirit™ via EnterpriseConnect lies in the integrated search option in FirstSpirit™ client.

In this way, editors can determine data and documents directly (without changing the tool) within the third systems and select them for deployment with FirstSpirit™. This approach completely removes the break in the editing process frequently experienced due to a large number of different tools.

Interfacing backend systems

EnterpriseConnect provides a large number of ready connectors, which can be limed to the installation in your company through pure configuration.

Extract from the list of available connectors:

  • Microsoft SharePoint server
  • SAP ERP
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Lotus Notes
  • SAP ArchiveLink
  • File servers
  • JDBC databases
  • Tibco BusinessWorks (including over 150 Tibco connectors)
  • IBM MQSeries
  • SOAP/web services
  • and many more.

New connectors for systems not yet linked can usually be implemented in a few days.

Technical basis: Braintribe Content Service Platform (CSP)
EnterpriseConnect Architecture: The technical basis of the EnterpriseConnect module for FirstSpirit CMS is the Content Service Platform (CSP) of Braintribe. Zoom
EnterpriseConnect Architecture

The technical basis of the EnterpriseConnect module is the Content Service Platform (CSP) of our technology partner Braintribe.

FirstSpirit™ access the CSP server via a standardised, stable interface, in order to determine and read out data and documents in all kinds of different systems.

The integration workflow takes place in three steps:

  1. An editor searches for documents in a specific backend system
  2. FirstSpirit™ internally saves a CSP reference to the documents
  3. Each time the page is generated, the up-to-date version of the documents is requested from the CSP framework and is statically filed on the web server with the generated web pages.

The advantage of this approach is that on accessing the documents, e.g. within an internet site, the actual data source (the backend system) does not have to be contacted live. This ensures a maximum delivery speed with simultaneous avoidance of load on the backend system.

Extended services on the web

Apart from the described scenarios for integrating data and documents via FirstSpirit™, the Braintribe Content Service platform also allows direct use of the function on the web. This "live use" accesses the backend systems directly from the website without FirstSpirit™ being actively involved in the delivery.

Through this option, enhanced services can be offered on the web, such as the

  • display of personalized insurance data (personalized insured persons file) directly on the internet with live data from the backend,
  • display of document workflows on the intranet, including tamper-proof filing and tracing,
  • live search in the master data of backend systems on the intranet or internet.

This type of enhanced services achieves real added value for customers and employees, which can be achieved through standard solutions of the Braintribe Content Service platform.
