DynamicPersonalization

Apart from static content, personalized content is playing an increasing role in modern intranets and extranets. Certain information may only be accessible to selected persons or groups. Other information is in turn only of interest for employees of a certain location or for visitors with a special interests profile. The FirstSpirit™' DynamicPersonalization module provides the necessary tools to easily implement such requirements for the personalized preparation of content.

Apart from managing user profiles, the categorisation of content in FirstSpirit™ is also very important for efficient personalization:

  • In the editing system of FirstSpirit™, content can be categorized by means of metadata. This enables assignment to users or interest groups directly in the CMS.
  • The stored meta information can be used for checking rights/permissions or for displaying user targeted content in the live system.

DynamicPersonalization uses a runtime component to evaluate the metadata defined in the FirstSpirit™ editing system and displays the personalized content. Only the page or parts of pages which actually contain personalized information are dynamically calculated. Unpersonalized content can continue to be delivered statically.

By using a Java tag library, which can run on any JSP engine, the template developer can access both the defined metadata and the deposited profile information.

Personalized information

Content

Content refers to sites, paragraphs or singular input components. The personalization can therefore be applied in a very fine-granular manner.

Media and documents

The option "Secure Media Folder" protects different types of media and documents against unauthorized access.

Navigation area

Using meta data in the structure and the integrated Tag Library menu items can be masked out depending on the individual user profile.

Data sources

Data records in data sources managed by FirstSpirit™ can be tagged with meta information for personalized usage.

Profile maintenance

Maintaining user profiles in data sources
The maintenance of profiles can be done in the convenient interface of the FirstSpirit™ data sources. An external admin interface is therefore not neccessary.

Maintenance by users and editors
Depending on the application scenario the maintenance of user data can be handled either by the editors only or by the users themselves. For this second case, FirstSpirit™ DynamicPersonalization provides a tag library for creating the according sites in the twinkling of an eye.

Authentification via NTLM, LDAP and FirstSpirit™- data sources
Due to the modular structure of FirstSpirit™ DynamicPersonalization there are a number of authentification adapters at hand. It is possible to authenticate via NT Lan Manager (NTLM), the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or relational data banks. Further adapters can be created with minimal implementation efforts only.

Using Single Sign-On (SSO)
DynamicPersonalization offers different Single Sign-On solutions. They provide the opportunity for users to authenticate themselves for multiple applications or systems with only a single login process. A SSO connection to the FirstSpirit™ CMS Server, the SAP Portal Server, the IBM WebSphere Portal Server and JOSSO (Java Open Single Sign-On) is possible.

FirstSpirit™ DynamicPersonalization is a team player

You can of course also use FirstSpirit™ DynamicPersonalization as an independent solution. But its use is particularly interesting in interaction with other components:

IBM WebSphere Portal Integration

Integration with the IBM WebSphere Portal enables the use of single sign-on. You can conveniently define the permissions for the existing portal roles using the input components in FirstSpirit™.

Integration with FirstSpirit™ DynamicDatabaseAccess

You would like to give your users the opportunity to edit their profiles themselves? This can be easily implemented in interaction with FirstSpirit™ DynamicDatabaseAccess and data sources.

SAP NetWeaver Portal Integration

Integration with the SAP Portal Server enables the use of single sign-on. You can conveniently define the permissions for the existing portal roles using the input components in FirstSpirit™.

Integration with FirstSpirit™ EnterpriseSearch and BasicSearch

You already use FirstSpirit™ EnterpriseSearch or the FirstSpirit™ BasicSearch? In interaction with DynamicPersonalization, you can filter the search results on the basis of the current user's permissions.
