The administration of FirstSpirit™ - configuration and monitoring in clear interfaces

The configuration, maintenance and enhancement of software solutions is often complicated and time-consuming. FirstSpirit™ on the other hand supports administrators via graphic user interfaces, which leave nothing to be desired.

The FirstSpirit™ editing server is configured and managed via its own graphic RichClient: Among other things, it is used to create or interface clients or users, to install modules, and much more.

A web and ajax-based monitoring component extends the spectrum for the administrator, so that the FirstSpirit™ server can be monitored at all times and can be controlled as and when necessary.

Server and project configuration

Manage a large number of internet, extranet and intranet sites

Management of FirstSpirit™ clients

FirstSpirit™ enables the flexible management of several clients on one editing server. In this way administrators can, for example, create clients to separately maintain national sites, microsites, brand presentation sites or intranets and extranets.

Here FirstSpirit™ Package Management can be used to flexibly share content, media, whole navigation areas or even templates with other clients.

Client exports and imports can also be used to generate (automatic) backups and if necessary, within minutes, generate a new client with the content and configurations of the source client. The administrator is always optimally assisted and guided through their work by the graphic user interface.

User and group management of FirstSpirit™

All users who are to utilise the FirstSpirit™ editing environment are created in the system's user management facility. Here the administrator can not only create internal FirstSpirit™ users, but can also use directory services such as LDAP and ADS to link existing user accounts to the FirstSpirit™ server for authentication purposes.

The user profiles available throughout the server can then be used by the clients and defined there as groups. In this way, each client has their own set of users and groups. The users' and/or groups' privileges for the individual objects are then configured in the client.

Managing presentation channels

You plan to use FirstSpirit™ not only to produce HTML web pages?

You would like automatic generation of RSS feeds or printable PDF documents?

As the administrator, you create the formats to be generated, globally on the FirstSpirit™ server, once only. Each client can then use the formats they need from this superset.

Link with existing corporate data

Integration of existing databases

Linking existing SQL databases with FirstSpirit™ takes only a few minutes - regardless of whether it is an Oracle, IBM, Microsoft or, for example, MySQL database.

The required databases are docked onto the FirstSpirit™ server a matter of seconds using the graphic JDBC connector user interface. You can then define which of these databases each client can access. You can decide, e.g. whether read only or read and write access is to be allowed.

Through simple mapping of the external database attributes to FirstSpirit™ input components, FirstSpirit™ generates on the fly editorial input forms, so that editors receive immediate read and - if required - write access to the databases interfaced in this way.

Creating and configuring schedules in FirstSpirit

You do not have to do any programming to deploy editorially maintained information in the right destination. With FirstSpirit™ schedule management, as the responsible administrator, with only a few clicks of your mouse, you control at which end servers and under which conditions content is to be deployed. Diverse transport protocols and mechanisms are available for this.

Furthermore, among other things, it is also possible to perform automatic backups or to generate messages.

The module manager enables add-ons to be installed and configured

FirstSpirit™ can be extensively supplemented with diverse modules, without having to interfere with the system's core.

Create and manage languages

FirstSpirit™ is consistently based on Unicode, so that all languages in the world can be used for the output formats produced. The set of languages available is set up server-wide and the individual clients help themselves to this stock of options.

The FirstSpirit™ WebMonitor

An overview of the main features

The web-based server monitor

With the web and AJAX-based system monitor, FirstSpirit™ provides far-reaching monitoring options for the system functions and resources.

The system monitor also lists the reports graphically. Among other things, the following parameters can be monitored:
  • Memory utilisation over time (time interval can be set to years, months, weeks, days, hours), including display of the corresponding logs
  • Sessions over time
  • Active clients over time
  • System resources in general and per client
  • Threads including thread dump
  • VM memory reports
  • Activities
  • Clients
  • Log files (sortable)
  • Time management
  • Schedules
  • Databases
  • Clustering

Furthermore, control and configuration functions are also available in WebMonitor.

JMX compatible

Linking with external monitoring systems via JMX is also readily possible. In this way, FirstSpirit™ monitoring is integrated in a company or group-wide monitoring solution.
